NEW YORK (Reuters) -New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot in Manhattan early on Sunday morning, with media reports indicating he was in critical but stable condition.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department said emergency responders transported a 29-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen to Bellevue Hospital in “critical but stable” condition, declining to identify the victim by name.

The police spokesperson said there have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Jets said they “are aware of the situation” and declined further comment.

“I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement posted to social media.

The New York Post was first to report the shooting.

The Jets signed Boyd in the offseason to play on special teams after his stint with the Houston Texans. New York placed him on injured reserve in August. Boyd has not played a game this season.
