WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams discussed a possible Republican primary run, the New York Times reported late on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The newspaper said he discussed the options as recently as Monday. When asked for a comment by the Times, he said he was running as a Republican.

A criminal case had cast a shadow over Adams’ administration and his reputation was damaged after he was charged with corruption. On Monday, the Justice Department directed federal prosecutors in New York to drop their five-count indictment against him.
