Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams has a right hip flexor strain and was placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the host Miami Marlins.

Abrams underwent an MRI exam Saturday that determined the severity.

Abrams aggravated the injury while stealing second base in the third inning of Friday’s 7-4 win over the Marlins. He was removed from the game prior to the bottom of the fourth inning.

“We’re going to give him some time to see if we can get that to calm down a little bit,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters Saturday.

Abrams, a 2024 All-Star, is batting .244 with four homers, seven RBIs and four steals in 11 games this season.

Martinez hopes the IL stint will resolve the issue.

“I’m glad we’re able to catch it early and the rest, I think, will definitely help him,” Martinez said. “He’s going to get tons of treatment, and as soon as we could do some baseball activity with him, we’ll get him going.”

Abrams, 24, has a .244 average with 44 homers, 157 RBIs and 89 steals in 390 career games in four seasons with the San Diego Padres (2022) and Nationals (2022-25).

Washington recalled infielder Nasim Nunez from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. The 24-year-old was batting .192 with five steals and three RBIs in 10 games at Triple-A Rochester. Nunez made his major-league debut with the Nationals last year and posted a .246 average with eight steals in 76 plate appearances spread across 51 games.
