MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday named Emilia Esther Calleja to lead state power firm Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), making her the first woman to hold the post.
Calleja has previously held a number of posts at the firm over the past two decades, she said, speaking alongside Sheinbaum.
Sheinbaum has repeatedly tapped technocrats to her cabinet, which will take office on Oct. 1.
Calleja said she would continue working in line with the aims of the previous government, which sought to boost state control over the country’s energy sector.
The president-elect has yet to announce who will head state-run oil firm Pemex, which is heavily indebted.
