Seattle ace Bryan Woo left his start in the Mariners’ 4-0 road win over the Houston Astros on Friday night due to tightness in a pectoral muscle.

After holding the Astros to one hit over five innings, the right-hander was on the mound warming up for the sixth when, after a throw, he looked down at his glove and appeared to show frustration. Manager Dan Wilson and the team’s training staff came out.

The 2025 All-Star was taken out of the game at that point.

“He just has a little pec tightness,” Wilson told said postgame. “We’ll know tomorrow. Likely an MRI and we’ll get to know a little bit more tomorrow.”

“It was smart that (Woo) let us know and there was no reason to push it. … There’s just too many unknowns at this point.”

Despite leaving early, Woo improved to 15-7 record and lowered his ERA to 2.94. Before Friday, the 25-year-old failed to go at least six innings only twice in 29 starts this year.

In taking the first of the three-game series, the Mariners (85-69) moved a game ahead of the Astros (84-70) for first place in the American League West.

Righty Eduard Bazardo replaced Woo and pitched two innings before Matt Brash and Andres Munoz each threw one inning to complete a three-hit shutout.
