Legend Biotech to set up new R&D facility in Philadelphia

(Reuters) -Legend Biotech said on Thursday it would set up a new research and development facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to advance its portfolio of next-generation cell therapies.
The company is studying its experimental cell therapies, which are in early-stage development, to treat different types of cancers.
The 31,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025 and would build on the company’s existing research and development footprint in the United States, including a plant in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Legend, which has more than 1,200 employees in the U.S., expects 55 full-time employees would eventually be based in the new facility.
Headquartered in Somerset, New Jersey, the company also has sites in Ireland, Belgium and China, according to its website.
Legend’s largest shareholder is GenScript, a Cayman Islands-registered company with operations in China, the U.S. and Europe and which provides pharmaceutical research and manufacturing services.
Earlier this year, the U.S. House of Representatives committee on China asked the FBI and the intelligence community for a briefing on GenScript and three subsidiaries — Bestzyme, Legend and ProBio — to determine if the Chinese Communist Party has influence over their operations.
