(Reuters) -The governor of Russia’s Kamchatka region said early on Friday that a tsunami warning had been issued for the area off the east coast of the peninsula after an earthquake measuring 7.2 was recorded.

Vladimir Solodov, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said residents were being warned of the danger, but there had been no reports of damage.

The U.S. tsunami warning system said it had issued no warning of threat of a tsunami in the aftermath of the quake. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was measured at 7.8.
