WASHINGTON (Reuters) – International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Friday that Argentina’s election in October was for its people to decide, clarifying her remarks on Thursday that Argentina should stay the course on economic reforms.

“Elections are for the Argentine people, not for us,” Georgieva told reporters during IMF and World Bank spring meetings.

“What we have learned from experience is that very often before elections, governments weaken their resolve to reforms. So my message was to the government – stay the course for the benefit of growth in Argentina, for the benefit of the Argentine people,” She said.
