HONG KONG, April 14 (Reuters) – HSBC’s head of banking in Europe and the Americas Gerry Keefe has resigned, becoming the latest senior banker to depart since the bank’s global overhaul launched in 2024.
The bank announced the news on Tuesday, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters and confirmed by a company spokesperson.
Jo Miyake, head of Asia and the Middle East banking, was named to take on Keefe’s role on an interim basis, the bank spokesperson said.
Keefe was appointed to the role of overseeing the bank’s commercial and investment banking operations in the two regions about a year ago.
HSBC in a major restructuring to pivot to Asia, wound down its mergers and acquisition, and some equities businesses in the Americas and Europe in early 2025.
Keefe, who joined HSBC from Citigroup in 2021 as head of banking for Americas, was among the high-profile bankers the European bank hired to try to boost its U.S. dealmaking.
Last September, HSBC’s former head of U.S. banking Lisa McGeough left to join rival Deutsche Bank.
