Portugal’s Nuno Borges moved into the second round after Felix Auger-Aliassime retired from their match with what seemed like a thigh injury.

0223 GAUFF EASES INTO SECOND ROUND
American third seed Coco Gauff beat Uzbekistan’s Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2 6-3 at Rod Laver Arena to move into the second round with her 75th Grand Slam main draw win.
She will next face Olga Danilovic, who eliminated Venus Williams with a stunning third-set comeback.
0145 KENIN OUSTED IN FIRST ROUND, HUNTER THROUGH
Former champion Sofia Kenin was knocked out by fellow American Peyton Stearns 6-3 6-2.
Australian qualifier Storm Hunter beat Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4 6-4 to move into the second round.

Play got under way on the main showcourts at Melbourne Park with American third seed Coco Gauff beginning her bid for a third Grand Slam title against Uzbekistan’s Kamilla Rakhimova on Rod Laver Arena.
On adjacent Margaret Court Arena, 11th seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia was in first-round action against Dutch Jesper de Jong.
Other top seeds, including Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek, are also scheduled across the show courts as the opening round continues in warm, sunny conditions.
