(Reuters) -Tiger Woods said on Saturday he has had lumbar disc replacement surgery to address severe back issues, the latest setback in a string of injuries that have stalled his return to the PGA Tour.
The 15-times major champion, sidelined since missing the British Open cut in July 2024, said Friday’s procedure was successful after months of persistent pain and limited mobility.
“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with doctors and surgeons to have tests taken,” Woods said in a statement.
“I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”
Woods, 49, had surgery in March to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon and has played a limited schedule since his February 2021 car crash.
Serving as tournament host, Woods did not appear on the initial player list released earlier this week for the Dec. 4–7 Hero World Challenge in Albany, Bahamas.
