June 15 (Reuters) – General Motors is in talks with Lockheed Martin about making parts for the defense contractor’s weapons, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing sources.

• Automobile maker GM would manufacture commonly used parts that could help Lockheed bolster munitions production, the report said, adding that the companies are discussing which components GM could potentially make.

• An agreement hasn’t been finalized, and the contours of the arrangement could change, the report said.

• GM and Lockheed were not immediately available for comment outside business hours when contacted by Reuters. Reuters could not verify the report.

• The potential tie-up comes as the U.S.-Iran war and supplies sent to Ukraine in recent years have depleted U.S. weapons stockpiles.

• The Trump administration planned to meet executives from the biggest U.S. defense contractors at the White House to discuss accelerating ‌production, Reuters reported last week.
