BERLIN (Reuters) -French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday he believed in the project of a future Franco-German fighter jet FCAS.

“We have an obligation to succeed,” he said during a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, adding it was normal for the process to be complicated as it groups in a common project companies who are used to compete against each other.

“Our interest is to carry out our common projects,” he said. “It is our test of credibility.”

The project, which also includes Spain, aims to develop next generation fighter jets and related systems for European forces.
