PARIS, Jan 28 (Reuters) – French company La Marque En Moins recalled three batches of infant formula as a precaution due to potential presence of a toxin amid a growing international scare but later cancelled the alert after analysis showed they were safe.

The recall followed official recommendations issued after several companies, including Nestle, Danone and privately-owned Lactalis, withdrew infant formula as a precaution over concerns it could be contaminated by cereulide, a toxin that can cause nausea and vomiting.

Out of caution, the company, which only operates on the French market where it has a small market share, asked its clients to hold its infant formula until further analyses could be carried out.

“The results yesterday showed that a recall was not needed,” the company’s cofounder Maxime Deguine told Reuters.

Health authorities required La Marque en Moins to post an alert on the official recall website despite the results, Deguine said. But the recall was closed based on the analysis results.
