San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones re-aggravated a sprained PCL during the 49ers’ 16-15 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, he told reporters after the game Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif.

Jones, 27, sustained the ligament injury in training camp but was healthy in time for the regular season, when he was the backup to starter Brock Purdy. However, Purdy came away from the season-opening win against the Seattle Seahawks with toe and left shoulder injuries, his toe being the bigger concern. He has missed the last two games, both San Francisco victories with Jones behind center.

Jones completed 27 of 41 passes for 284 yards, one touchdown and one interception against Arizona (2-1). He was 26-of-39 passing for 279 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 26-21 win at New Orleans on Sept. 14.

Purdy was listed as questionable for Sunday before being ruled out before the game.

The New England Patriots selected Jones with the 15th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Jones is in his first season as San Francisco’s backup after three bumpy years in New England and one season in Jacksonville.
