QUITO (Reuters) – The party of Ecuadorean opposition leader and former presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez on Tuesday asked the country’s electoral council to review presidential vote tallies from 1,729 ballot boxes, part of its effort to prove what it says was a massive fraud.

Election authorities and outside observers have said incumbent President Daniel Noboa secured a full term after sweeping the April 13 runoff vote, but the Citizens’ Revolution party has requested reviews of boxes where it says paperwork is incomplete or wrong.

The national electoral council (CNE), whose president shared the figure in a press conference, will now review the request and could approve recounts of all, some or none of the ballot boxes.
