Doug Nussmeier is headed back to the New Orleans Saints, who drafted the former NFL quarterback in 1994.

This time, Nussmeier will be the offensive coordinator on the staff of first-time head coach Kellen Moore.

Nussmeier, 54, was quarterbacks coach with the Super Bowl-champion Eagles and worked closely with Moore during the past seven seasons. Nussmeier discussed the potential path back to New Orleans prior to Philadelphia’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Nussmeier was with the Saints from 1994-97 and bounced from the Denver Broncos to the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears before one season with the CFL’s BC Lions (2000). In 2001, he began his coaching career as QB coach of the BC team.

A fourth-round pick out of Idaho, Nussmeier has deep ties to New Orleans. He met his wife there when she was a cheerleader for the Saints. And now he is in much closer proximity to his son, Garrett, who is the starting quarterback at LSU in Baton Rouge.

Moore and Nussmeier also worked together on the coaching staffs of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers.
