Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos will undergo additional testing at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition Thursday.

Matos sustained an injury late in the team’s first training camp practice on Wednesday and was airlifted to the hospital with partial loss of feeling on one side of his body. As of Thursday morning, the Dolphins said the 24-year-old had regained full movement in all extremities.

The Dolphins said in a statement Thursday that Matos “has movement in all extremities. … He will remain in the care of doctors for continued observation.”

Born in the Dominican Republic, Matos joined the NFL International Player Pathway Program after playing one season of college football at South Florida in 2022. He walked on to the team after never having played organized football and saw brief action in two games.

He began his college experience in 2020-21 playing basketball at New Mexico, then transferred to South Florida the following season. He appeared in 28 games (four starts) and averaged 1.5 points and 2.7 rebounds over 10.6 minutes per game for the Bulls.

Matos, who is listed at 6-foot-7 and 334 pounds, signed with Miami last year and spent the 2024 season on the team’s practice squad.
