NAIROBI, March 16 (Reuters) – The death toll from landslides in Ethiopia last week has risen to 125, the South Ethiopia regional government said.
* Heavy rains triggered a series of landslides in differentparts of the Gamo Zone. * As of last Thursday, authorities had confirmed 70 deaths. * On Sunday the South Ethiopia regional government gave ahigher death toll of 125. * More than 11,000 people have been displaced, the regionalgovernment’s communications office said in a statement on itsFacebook account. * Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited the scene of thelandslides on Saturday to condole with local residents andpledged government support, according to a post on his X accounton Saturday.
