BEIJING (Reuters) – Dior’s Shanghai branch has transferred customers’ personal data to its headquarters in France illegally, leading to a data leak in May, China’s public security authority said on Tuesday.

The company did not conduct required security assessments before transferring data overseas, and it did not notify users or encrypt the data according to requirements, the authority said in a statement.

The local public security authority carried out an administrative penalty against the firm, the statement said.

The company did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
