Aug 20 (Reuters) – Celon Pharma’s experimental semaglutide product Reduzek, a generic alternative to Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Ozempic, matched the blockbuster weight-loss drugs in an early-stage bioequivalence study, the Polish drugmaker said on Thursday.

The company’s shares surged 14.7% following the publication of selected data from the study, and were on track for their best trading day since July 2024 if the gains hold.

• The Canadian study on 91 healthy volunteers showed a 0.5 milligram dose of Reduzek had a comparable rate and extent of absorption to Ozempic and Wegovy.

• The data will allow Celon Pharma to extend the demonstrated bioequivalence to other doses of the drug candidate, according to clinical guidelines.

• It said the trial marks a significant step in its strategy to launch the semaglutide equivalent in global markets.

• The company’s portfolio includes antipsychotic medicine Ketrel, the anti-tumor drug Aromek and Alzheimer’s disease treatment Donepex.
