Caitlin Clark missed the Indiana Fever’s WNBA preseason opener against the Washington Mystics Saturday due to an issue with her left leg.

The move was believed to be precautionary.

The Saturday game was on the Fever’s home court in Indianapolis, but the team has an exhibition game scheduled for Sunday against Brazil’s national team. That game will be played on the campus of the University of Iowa, where Clark starred for four seasons before being selected No. 1 by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Clark had been listed as questionable and went through warmups on Saturday but cheered on her team from the bench.

The 23-year-old guard has been durable in her career.

Last season, she played in all 40 regular-season games and two playoff games en route to winning the Rookie of the Year award and being named first-team All-WNBA. She averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists.

In four seasons at Iowa, she became the all-time Division I scoring leader (3,951 points) and played 139 games, never missing a contest. A two-time national Player of the Year, she averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists.

The Fever are scheduled to play another preseason game May 10 at the Atlanta Dream. They open the regular season May 17 against the Chicago Sky in Indianapolis.
