SAO PAULO, Jan 12 (Reuters) – Brazilian antitrust body CADE said on Monday it had opened an investigation into the new terms of Meta’s WhatsApp business tool, adding it would also suspend the tool’s new terms in Brazil while it evaluates the case.
* There are potential anti-competitive practices arisingfrom the new terms, CADE said. * These anti-competitive practices would be regarding theaccess and offering by artificial intelligence (AI) toolproviders to WhatsApp users, it added. * CADE’s investigation came after complaints from AIchatbot providers over terms imposed in October banning themfrom WhatsApp Business Solution, regulatory documents showed. * A WhatsApp spokesperson said the claims “arefundamentally wrong.” * “The emergence of AI chatbots on the WhatsApp BusinessPlatform overloads our systems, which were not designed for thistype of support,” they said.
