(Reuters) – Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt served as bat boy for Toronto’s first Spring Training game against the New York Yankees on Saturday, his punishment after finishing last in the team’s fantasy football league.

Bassitt struck out 168 batters last season but did not fare nearly as well in the fantasy NFL league, with just four wins and 10 losses, and wore a jersey emblazoned with 4-10 to commemorate the dreadful record.

“Somebody lost their fantasy football league and has to be bat boy today,” the Blue Jays wrote on X, with a shot of Bassitt sitting on the sidelines at TD Ballpark, the team’s Spring Training home in Dunedin, Florida.

“Bats are looking good.”

Bassitt, who took his punishment on his 36th birthday, played in a fantasy league organized by team mate and 2024 Golden Glove winner Daulton Varsho.

Varsho, a diehard Green Bay Packers fan, told CityNews Toronto this week that reliever Erik Swanson won the league.
