GOP Unlikely To Support Using 25th Amendment To Remove Biden

Wed, Jul 3, 2024 at 3:48 pm
A handful of Republicans have floated the idea of using the 25th amendment to remove President Biden from office, but it’s not gaining much traction. House Speaker Mike Johnson is the most prominent Republican to raise the possibility. It’s also been mentioned by GOP Senator Thom Tillis, a member of the Senate Republican leadership. Overall GOP sentiment has been to let Democrats decide on their own. One anonymous GOP insider told  the Hill that since the debate “We’ve seen Dems wildly thrashing around…They have no clue what to do,” One not calling for Biden’s replacement is Donald Trump. He’s only seen his poll numbers improve against Biden since last week’s debate.

Overall, Motorintelligence.com says U.S. sales were up only 0.1% compared to a year ago, as still-high prices kept many potential buyers out of the market. Sales were crimped in late June, when cyberattacks knocked out software from CDK Global that dealerships use to do sales paperwork.

VERBATIM: It’s another sign of weakening demand for the company’s products and electric vehicles overall. The Austin, Texas, company says it sold nearly 444-thousand vehicles from April through June. That’s down 4.8% from 466,140 sold the same period a year ago. But the sales were better than the 436,000 that analysts had expected.

Cotton tells the Salem Radio Network he doesn’t buy the white house excuse that the president was suffering from a cold. More to the point, however, Cotton says failing health had nothing to do with three years of what he calls “inflation, an open border, and a chaotic war-filled world.”

Inflation is down in Europe, but the European Central Bank is slow to cut rates

TAG: Correspondent Jeremy House reporting. The central bank’s president made clear in a speech that it will take time to make sure inflation is headed down for good. The bank has made one rate cut to help the economy grow. But analysts say that more cuts are off the table at least until the bank’s September meeting.

—————————
VERBATIM: Whiel the report is good news, it’s not good enough for the European Central Bank to cut interest rates just yet. The figure of 2.5% for June was down a bit from the month before. That’s well down from the peak in double digits. But it just shows how consumer price increases are stuck above 2%. And that’s where the ECB wants inflation to land.

Biden Debate Backlash Raises GOP Prospects In Senate

Mon, Jul 1, 2024 at 2:46 pm
President Biden’s weak performance in last week’s debate could have a big impact on Capitol Hill. Much of the talk since the debate has been about how Joe Biden’s performance may have weakened his own chances for re-election. But among lawmakers, the focus is on how Biden’s declining fortunes may impact individual races and majority control, especially in the Senate. That’s where Replicans need to flip seats in EITHER Montana or Ohio—in addition to their assured victory in West Virginia—to regain the majority. Since the debate Red State Democrats Jon Tester and Sherrod Brown have been emphasizing their own achievements, and drawing less on their connection to Joe Biden.

SCOTUS Ruling A Setback For Trump’s Democrat Opponents

Mon, Jul 1, 2024 at 1:05 pm
A big setback for Donald Trump’s political opponents on Monday at the U.S. Supreme Court.  In a historic ruling the justices said for the first time former presidents can be shielded from prosecution for at least some of what they do in the Oval Office. Democrats have accused Trump of plotting to overturn the 2020 election results . He has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly described the charges against him as “election interference.” In extending the delay, the High Court left it to lower courts to decde how their ruling applies to the case against Trump, and all but ends Democrats’ hopes of putting the former president on trial before the November election.
