VERBATIM:  An executive order allows the U.S. to quit, which has made a lot of people happy — especially pro-life advocates.  You might think the PCA has nothing to do with abortion, but in fact the lengthy accord includes much promotion of abortion and contraception as a means of reducing global population — despite growing alarm over the fact that the birthrates of many industrialized countries are plummeting.  President Trump is also withdrawing from the World Health Organization.  MHNSRN NEWS

VERBATIM:  Democrats predict that America will become more liberal on the issue as Millennials and Generation Z begin to take power, but a new poll suggests otherwise.  The numbers come from a YouGov, Survey USA study and they reveal that nearly 70% of 20 and 30-somethings favor limitations on abortion.  Only nine percent say the procedure should be completely unfettered.  Meanwhile other polls indicate that people become gradually MORE pro-life as they age.  MH SRN NEWS

Samaritan’s Purse continues to provide hurricane relief in North Carolina

VERBATIM:  The giant Christian relief agency says it has helped more than 6,000 homeowners in small mountain towns and other rural areas devastated by the big storm that struck nearly four months ago.  Score of trailer homes and RVs have been provided by Samaritan’s Purse to families whose houses were flattened by Helene with more on the way.  Ministry president Franklin Graham says more than 350 people have also accepted Christ.  MH SRN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  A memorial service is to be held Wednesday in front of the Supreme Court building here in Washington to remember all the unborn babies killed by abortion since the procedure was legalized in 1972.  The event will be co-sponsored by several pro-life groups including the Christian Defense Coalition and Faith and Liberty.  After the service 3,000 flowers will be left on the ground, signifying the average number of daily abortions in this country before Roe versus Wade was repealed.  MH SRN NEWS.

The latest numbers on persecution of Christians are disturbing

VERBATIM:  Open Doors US has produced its annual report and it concludes that more than 380 million believers suffer high levels of persecution for their faith and tens-of-millions more see their religious freedom restricted in lesser ways.  That means one in seven Christians around the globe is persecuted, including one in five in Africa and two in five in Asia.  Muslim radicals are the primary culprits, though India has a problem with radical Hindus and Communism is a problem elsewhere.  MH SRN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  Mike Johnson says the reason the lower chamber passed a bill that bars males from competing against females in sports can be found in the book of Genesis. VERBATIM:  They work for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and they are in the shelters where fire victims are living, ministering to them even as the crisis unfolds.  Ministry spokesman Josh Holland says “The images coming out of California look like scenes out of a Hollywood movie—yet they show the real-life horror that the people of the Los Angeles area are experiencing today.”  Other Christian ministries are also rushing help to the city.  MH SRN NEWS

VERBATIM:  The justices have agreed to consider a challenge to Obamacare lodged by Braidwood Management, a small Christian-owned business.  The company doesn’t want to be forced to cover certain kinds of healthcare, including medicate for HIV prevention because it “encourages and facilitates homosexual behavior in violation of our religious beliefs.”  The high court has been friendly to religious freedom complaints in the past, often ruling if favor of the plaintiffs.  MH SRNN NEWS

VERBATIM:  It’s pretty shocking.  10,000 Christians murdered over the course of two years.  Global Christian Relief has been adding up the numbers in Nigeria from November of 2022 through November of 2024 and it’s worse than ever.  Two Muslim terror groups are active in Nigeria and they have made it their explicit goal to kill every Christian in the country or drive them all out — ushering in a Sharia state.  The government is apparently unable or unwilling to stop the violence.  MH SRN NEWS

VERBATIM:  It’s all about so-called climate change.  The Lutheran National Church of Sweden says it will shut down seven houses of worship on the island of Gotland from October to May, in order to eliminate the use of fossil fuels to heat them.  Local parishioners who would like to attend services during that time are simply out of luck.  Church officials have issued a statement saying “ “Knowledge about climate justice should permeate all activities of Church of Sweden.”  MH SRN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  The latest numbers from the Pew Research Center reveal that just 51% of Americans are married — and if you think everybody else is cohabitating you would be WRONG.  Just seven percent of adults are doing that.  Which means that 42% of the grown-up population is single — a percentage unmatched in all of U.S. history.  Women are actually more likely than men to be unpartnered as Pew puts it — 44% versus 40%.  MH RN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  House Speaker Mike Johnson has officially ordered that all restrooms, changing rooms and locker rooms at the Capitol will be restricted to use by people according to their actual, biological sex — not their so-called gender identity.  The order was NOT a part of the Republican rules package, but Johnson issued it as part of the Congressional Record published January 3rd.  The action was prompted by the arrival of a Delaware representative who is a man living as a woman.  MH SRN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  The state’s Board of Education has approved new rules that eliminate the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion agenda from the public schools.  Specifically, the board says “no employee or student is required to declare gender identity or preferred pronouns”, amongst other things.  A growing number of states, institutions and businesses are bailing on DEI in the face of angry backlash from voters, customers and millions of moms and dads across the nation.  MH SRNNNEWS.

VERBATIM:  A group of clergymen have met with the rebel leader who overthrew strongman Bashar Assad and they seem to have received no concrete assurances.  The Catholic News Agency quotes one cleric who says after sitting down with Ahmad al-Sharaa for some time, “We cannot discern his true intentions — it is ambiguous.  There are no guarantees, and we remain in limbo.”  Christians have had a presence in Syria for centuries but are a tiny persecuted minority today.  MH SRN NEW.

VERBATIM:  Floridians Protecting Freedom ran a costly — and ultimately unsuccessful campaign — to pass an abortion amendment in the Sunshine State.  The organization also committed fraud along the way.  FPF has agreed to pay nearly 200,000 dollars in fines related to fraudulent signature-gathering activity in the initial effort to get the amendment on the ballot.  Several arrests have been made in the case and investigators say they’re not done yet.  MH SRN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  It was addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it calls on him to take action against the persecution of believers.  More than 400 Indian clergymen and ministry leaders signed the letter, which points out that “Rising hate speech, especially from elected officials, has emboldened acts of violence against Christians. Mobs disrupt peaceful Christian gatherings and threaten believers with impunity.”  There was another surge in violence over the Christmas season.  MH SRNN NEWS

VERBATIM:  California’s Hart-Ransom Union School Board has ended its practice of beginning meetings with a prayer, under pressure from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.  That leading atheist organization sent a warning letter to the board, bearing with it the implied threat of a lawsuit if school officials did not comply.  This despite the fact that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of invocations in the past.  The Foundation focuses on scouring references to Christianity from the public square.  MH SRM NESD

VERBATIM:  Most measures of persecution focus on how governments restrict the religious freedom of individuals.  But the Pew Research Center has produced a more nuanced study, that separates out countries where Christians are likely to be persecuted not by officials, but by their neighbors who follow other faiths.  The problem of what Pew calls “social hostility” in the Middle East, where most nations are predominantly Muslisms and Christians are an embattled minority.  MH SRN NEWS.

VERBATIM:  Officials in Daytona Beach have repealed an ordinance that was making it impossible for a local church to feed the homeless.  The 7th Day Baptist Church had filed a lawsuit against the statute, which changed local zoning rules and would have forced the congregation’s food pantry to shut down.  First Liberty Institute represented the plaintts and issued a statement congratulating the city and saying “The church is thrilled to be able to continue helping those in need.”  MH SRN NEWS.
