President Trump is withdrawing his nominee for the top federal prosecutor in the nation’s capital. The president said he reluctantly pulled the nomination of Ed Martin to be U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, saying he was disappointed. Martin faced opposition in Congress, including from a key Republican senator who said he could not support him for the job because of his defense of January 6 rioters.

The United States and the United Kingdom have reached a trade agreement following President Trump’s worldwide tariffs. Speaking from the Oval Office, the president said he agreed to cut tariffs on U.K. autos, steel , and aluminum. In return, Britain will buy more American beef and streamline its customs process for U-S goods.
British Prime Minister Starmer, who joined the announcement by phone, agreed that the deal t will “boost trade between and across” the two countries. Final details are being written and will be finished in the coming weeks.

Former President Joe Biden says he’s responsible for Donald Trump’s victory in November. In his first live interview since leaving office, Biden said he was in charge and his party lost, so he takes responsibility. But he also blamed part of Kamala Harris’ loss on sexism and racism. Appearing on ABC’s “The View,” the 82-year-old Biden also rejected concerns about his cognitive decline. As for his successor, Biden said Donald Trump has “had the worst 100 days any president has ever had.”

The Ford Motor Company has announced tariff-induced price hikes on some of its vehicles. Prices on the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, Maverick pickup, and Bronco Sport will increase by as much as $2,000 on some models. All three are produced in Mexico. With the announcement, Ford becomes one of the first major automakers to adjust sticker prices following President Trump’s tariffs. The decision to increase prices comes after Ford said the president’s trade war would cost the company about 2-and-a-half billion dollars this year. GC, Wash.

The Supreme Court is allowing the Trump administration to temporarily keep transgender people out of the military. A divided high court ruled that the administration’s transgender ban in the military can be enforced while legal challenges proceed. The court’s three liberal justices said they would have kept the policy on hold. President Trump recently signed an executive order that claims the sexual identity of transgender service members “conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle” — and is harmful to military readiness.

In a cordial Oval Office appearance, the two leaders respectfully disagreed about Donald Trump’s desire to acquire Canada. The Trump administration wants a judge to toss out an abortion lawsuit from three GOP-led states. The lawsuit from Idaho, Kansas and Missouri is seeking to cut off telehealth access to the abortion medication mifepristone. Justice Department attorneys stayed the legal course charted by the Biden administration, though they didn’t directly weigh in on the underlying issue of access to the drug. Rather, the government argued the states don’t have the legal right, or standing, to sue.

Declaring Alcatraz a “symbol of law and order,” the president is directing his government to reopen and expand the island prison, which has been closed for more than 60 years. He wrote online that the prison should house “America’s most ruthless and violent offenders.” Alcatraz was closed in 1963 due to crumbling infrastructure and is now a major tourist site that is operated by the National Park Service.

He said he has authorized the Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to slap a 100% tariff “on any and all movies” coming into the U.S. that are produced overseas. A Trump-appointed judge says the president cannot use a wartime law to deport Venezuelans. The federal judge ruled that the Trump administration exceeded the scope of an 18th-century wartime law in using it to deport some Venezuelan migrants. And he’s barring the administration from using it. Fernando Rodriguez, who was appointed by the president in his first term, said using the Alien Enemies Act to detain and deport Venezuelan gang members was illegal because the gang’s presence in the U-S was not an “invasion.”

The two countries came to terms on a deal that will compensate Washington for billions in military and economic assistance to help Ukraine repel the Russian invasion. In a video message, Treasury Secretary Bessent says the agreement sends a direct message to Moscow.
