President Trump is set to observe Memorial Day. In commemoration of this national holiday, the president will pay tribute to America’s fallen military service members. This morning, he’ll participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and give a speech at Arlington National Cemetery.

Trump agrees to delay 50% EU tariffs until July
President Trump says the U-S will delay 50 percent tariffs on the European Union by several weeks.
The president agreed to a different tariff timeline after speaking with the president of the European Commission. On Friday, the president threatened 50 percent tariffs, complaining that talks with the EU were “going nowhere.” But after the Sunday phone call, he said the Europeans want “to get down to serious negotiations” and that delaying the tariffs will buy time for trade talks.
Trump says Putin is “killing people and I don’t like it at all”
President Trump is growing increasingly unhappy with Russian President Putin and his country’s punishing war against Ukraine. As the Trump administration tries to secure a ceasefire, the president isn’t hiding his frustration with Vladimir Putin, saying “I don’t like it all.” He said he’s always gotten along with Putin, but he’s unhappy about the constant Russian rockets hitting Ukraine. The president said he’s “absolutely” considering more sanctions against Moscow.

Ethical questions swirl around Trump’s cryptocurrency activities
Ethical questions are swirling around President Trump’s recent cryptocurrency dinner. On Thursday night, the president held a private dinner at his Virginia golf club for the 220 biggest investors in his Trump meme coin. The top 25 investors were invited to a private reception for even closer access. The White House defended the event. Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt claimed it’s “absurd” to say that Donald Trump is profiting from the presidency. However, critics –and even some pro-Trump crypto enthusiasts–charge that he’s using the power of the presidency to boost profits for his family business.

White House cheers lower gas prices for holiday weekend
The White House is drawing attention to gas pump prices on this holiday weekend. With many Americans traveling over Memorial Day weekend, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt points to a bright spot in the economy. And that’s well below GasBuddy’s average of 3-58 per gallon on Memorial Day last year. Triple-A forecasted that more than 39 million people are traveling by car this weekend.

Prime Minister Ishiba said that he held telephone talks with Donald Trump and agreed to hold “productive” discussions at upcoming tariff talks between the two sides. He said Japan’s position to keep pushing Washington to drop all recent tariff measures is unchanged. Ishiba said he reminded the president that Japan’s position was for the U-S to scrap all recent tariffs on imports from Japan. The White House made no specific response.

Harvard, which unrolls more than six-thousand foreign students, called the action unlawful.

A young couple was shot and killed while leaving an event at a Jewish museum Wednesday night in the nation’s capital, and the suspect yelled, “Free, free Palestine” after he was arrested. The president said “these horrible DC killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end now.” He wrote on social media that “hatred and radicalism have no place in the USA.”
Trump celebrates House passage of his tax, spend bill
President Trump is celebrating House passage of a bill that contains his top priorities. The president calls it “arguably the most significant piece of legislation” in American history. It includes his campaign promises, including no taxes on tip income or overtime income. It’s projected the massive bill will add trillions of dollars to the nation’s debt. Writing on social media, the president praises House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican leadership for getting his major tax bill passed. It now goes to the Senate and he’s urging lawmakers there to “send it to his desk “as soon as possible.”

Trump confronts South Africa’s president in Oval Office meeting
President Trump confronted South Africa’s president during a meeting in the Oval Office. The meeting began on a friendly note with talk about golf. But the tone shifted when President Trump accused South Africa of ignoring the killing of white farmers. The president also played a video of South African political activists spewing hate speech. But South African President Ramaphosa pushed back against Donald Trump’s claim of a “genocide” of white farmers, saying “we are completely opposed to that.”

The dinner will be held at the president’s Virginia golf club on Thursday amid criticism from government watchdog groups who say it potentially violates federal rules. Supreme Court paves way for Venezuelan deportations
The Supreme Court hands the Trump administration an immigration victory. The high court is allowing the Trump administration to strip legal protections from 350-thousand Venezuelans and the ruling potentially exposes them to deportation. Venezuelans were granted Temporary Protected Status during the Biden administration, allowing people already in the U-S to live and work legally because of unsafe conditions in their native countries.
