Trump celebrates big bill’s passage at Iowa State Fairgrounds

President Trump is celebrating the passage of his landmark budget package. On the eve of Independence Day, the president told a crowd in Iowa that there “could be no better birthday gift for America” than when Congress approved the so-called “big beautiful bill.” The president claimed the legislation will turn the U-S “into a rocket ship” with tax breaks and spending cuts. The package also includes more than a trillion dollars in cutbacks to Medicaid health care and food stamps.

Trump: “No progress” on ending war in call with Russia’s Putin

President Trump says no progress was made on the Russia-Ukraine War during a phone call with Vladimir Putin. After having what he called a “pretty long call” with Russian President Putin, Donald Trump sounded frustrated. He also complained to reporters that the United States provided too many weapons to Ukraine under the previous administration. The U.S. is currently withholding some air defense missiles and other munitions from Ukraine.

Judge blocks Trump asylum order, gives administration two weeks to appeal

A federal judge has thrown one of President Trump’s key immigration plans into doubt. U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss in Washington ruled that the Trump executive order suspending asylum access at the southern border was unlawful. But he put the ruling on hold for two weeks to give the government time to appeal. In January, Donald Trump declared an invasion of America. However, the judge wrote that neither the Constitution nor immigration law gives the president the authority to repatriate or remove individuals from the U-S “without an opportunity to apply for asylum.”

Trump announces U.S. trade deal with Vietnam

President Trump has announced a trade deal with Vietnam. A week before his global tariffs are scheduled to take effect, the president announced that he personally negotiated a trade deal with the General Secretary of Vietnam’s Communist Party. He wrote online that Vietnam will pay a 20 percent tariff on goods exported to the U-S and, in return, Vietnam will open its market to the U-S with “zero” tariffs. The president suggested that American-made SUVs and large vehicles would benefit from the trade deal. GC, Wash.

President Trump is calling for Republican unity as House lawmakers finalize the tax breaks and spending cuts bill. As the House takes up the Senate version of the president’s domestic priorities bill, he’s optimistic about the legislation’s chances. He claims the bill has something for everyone and vows that Medicare and Medicaid are being strengthened, despite claims to the contrary. The president writes online that the GOP must “unite” and ignore the “occasional grandstanders.”

Now that GOP Senator Thom Tillis has announced he won’t run for re-election, the president is suggesting daughter-in-law Lara Trump as a possible candidate. It wasn’t clear if he was ruling out his daughter-in-law, who doesn’t live in North Carolina. Last year, the president picked Lara Trump to serve as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

Federal judge rules mass HHS layoffs as unlawful

A judge has ruled against the Trump administration’s job cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services. A federal judge said the mass layoffs at HHS were likely unlawful and ordered the Trump administration to halt plans to downsize and reorganize the nation’s health workforce. A preliminary injunction was granted to a coalition of attorneys general from 19 states and the District of Columbia. Judge Melissa Dubose said the states had shown “irreparable harm,” from the 10-thousand layoffs and were likely to prevail in their claims that “HHS’s action was both arbitrary and capricious.”

They’re at it again. President Trump and Elon Musk are engaged in a new war of words. Musk has ramped up his criticism of the big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts, calling it “political suicide for the Republican party.” The billionaire Tesla CEO wrote on X that any lawmaker who votes for “the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame.” The president responded by blasting Musk over electric vehicle subsidies. He also hinted that federal contracts with Musk companies could be in jeopardy, saying Musk has a lot to lose.

When the president had trouble connecting with thousands of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders in a White House conference call Monday afternoon, he did not exhibit the biblical virtues of patience, kindness, or self control. Instead, he quickly complained in social media posts about AT&T, saying they don’t know what they’re doing, He also threatened to use a different carrier next time. The call started after a 20-minute delay.

President Trump is cheering the Supreme Court’s ruling on LGBT storybooks in school. The court ruled in favor of Christian and Muslim parents in Maryland who sued to keep their elementary school children out of certain classes because of LGBT curriculum. And the president supported the decision, calling it a “tremendous victory for parents.” Parents in Montgomery County had argued that prohibiting opt-outs violated the Constitution’s First Amendment protections for the free exercise of religion.

The president hailed the court’s 6-3 ruling, calling it a “monumental victory.” He thanked the Supreme Court’s conservative justices and said his administration will try to advance restrictions on birthright citizenship and other policies that had been blocked by district courts. Meanwhile, liberal justices warned that the “decision is nothing less than an open invitation for the government to bypass the Constitution.”
