White House cheers Supreme Court decision on trans procedures

The Trump White House is cheering the Supreme Court’s decision upholding a ban on transgender medical procedures for minors. In a 6-3 decision, the high court stopped efforts to overturn Tennessee’s law banning puberty blockers and hormone treatments for children. Reaction from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called it a “huge victory.” More than two dozen other states have laws similar to Tennessee’s.

After launching military strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites, President Trump says “now is the time for peace.” The president announced that this weekend’s U-S airstrikes “totally and completely obliterated” three key Iranian nuclear targets. He also issued a warning to Iran’s leaders: make peace or face greater tragedy. The president said his administration worked closely with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The American intervention came after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran.

President Trump says the U-S military has carried out successful airstrikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities. In a Saturday night address to the nation, the president announced that American bombers carried out a mission to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He said the U-S carried out attacks against the Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites. Joined by the vice president and secretaries of Defense and State, Donald Trump warned that Iran will face more military strikes unless it makes peace.

Trump prefers diplomacy with Iran, but is “unafraid to use strength”

The White House says a presidential decision about U-S military action against Iran will come within the next two weeks. Because President Trump believes there’s a “substantial chance of negotiations” with Iran, he’s allowing more time before possibly intervening in the Israeli-Iranian conflict. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said a decision will be made within two weeks. She said any deal would have to prohibit enrichment of uranium by Iran and eliminate its ability to achieve a nuclear weapon.

After days of warning Iran to shut down any nuclear weapon development, the president is promising more time before deciding about a U-S military strike. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who read that statement directly from the president, said he still sees a “substantial” chance for negotiations with Iran. She insisted that Donald Trump has solid instincts and said Americans should simply “trust” his decision is the right one.

President Trump’s willingness to consider war with Iran has divided some of his staunchest allies. Leading voices within the president’s MAGA movement are split when it comes to possible military action against Iran. Some of the president’s top supporters are upset. But White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said “nobody should be surprised” that Trump wants to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The president this week said he’s not looking for a fight with Iran, but “if it’s a choice between fighting and them having a nuclear weapon, you have to do what you have to do.”

Trump extends TikTok ban deadline for a third time

President Trump has extended the deadline of a TikTok ban for a third time. The president signed an executive order to keep TikTok running in the U.S. for another 90 days. It gives his administration more time to broker a deal to bring the social media platform under American ownership. A White House spokesperson says the president “does not want TikTok to go dark.” Years ago, Donald Trump supported a TikTok ban because of privacy and security concerns. But he now has more than 15 million followers on the social media platform and there’s no ban in sight.

The State Department has begun evacuating nonessential diplomats and their families from the U.S. embassy in Israel. The evacuations come as hostilities between Israel and Iran intensify and President Trump warns of the possibility of getting directly involved in the conflict. There’s confusion, however, over evacuation plans for private American citizens. U-S Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee announced that such plans were being made. But hours later, the State Department said there is “no announcement about assisting private U.S. citizens to depart at this time.” GC, Wash.

Fed leaves interest rates unchanged, angering Trump

The Federal Reserve is leaving its key interest rate unchanged — much to President Trump’s displeasure. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said the economy remains “solid,” but inflation remains a concern. The Fed still expects two interest rate cuts by the end of this year. That’s not fast enough for President Trump, who complains that Powell hasn’t succumbed to his pressure to lower rates.

President Trump dismissed the warning, saying “good luck.” He claimed that “Iran’s got a lot of trouble and they want to negotiate.” And that war can still be avoided. Asked if he’s decided about ordering a military strike on Iran, the president said, “I may do it. I may not do it.”

For the past couple of months, the president held out hope that negotiations with Iran would lead to a deal on its nuclear program. Trump rejects U.S. intelligence assessment of Iran’s nuclear program

President Trump is dismissing a statement about Iran from one of his administration’s top intelligence officials. Three months ago, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard told lawmakers that U-S spy agencies did not believe Iran was building a nuclear weapon. When asked about that comment aboard Air Force One this week, the president rejected the assessment, saying “I don’t care what she said. I think they [Iran] were very close.” Meanwhile, the president is calling for Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and threatening the country’s supreme leader, saying he’s an “easy target.”

President Trump is weighing possible U-S involvement in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. The president has been meeting with top security advisers here at the White House after saying earlier he’s “not in a mood to negotiate” further with Iran  about its nuclear program. Vice President Vance wrote on social media that Donald Trump “may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment.” And the president said online that there are no immediate plans to kill Iran’s supreme leader but “patience is wearing thin.”

Americans’ view of the economy is improving

The American public’s view of the economy is improving. According to the Harvard Caps Harris poll, about 4 in 10 voters say the economy and the country are on the right track. While that’s an improvement, slightly more than half of those surveyed say the U-S is on the wrong track. Fifty-percent, though, say the U-S economy is strong. President Trump’s approval rating is largely steady, but he’s underwater with more Americans disapproving of how he’s handling his job.

Trump says calling MN Gov. Walz after shootings would “waste time”

President Trump is refusing to call Minnesota’s governor after the targeted shootings of two state lawmakers and their spouses. Presidents often reach out to other elected officials, including governors and mayors, at times of tragedy. But Donald Trump has no interest in calling Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was the 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee. He said he could call and be nice, but “why waste time?” The president also described the governor as “whacked out” and “a mess.” One Minnesota lawmaker was shot to death and another was wounded.

Back in DC, Trump wants “better than a ceasefire” in Iran-Israel conflict

President Trump is back in Washington to deal with the Israel-Iran conflict. The president abruptly left the G7 summit in Canada one day early, returning to meet with his national security team in the White House Situation Room. He told reporters on Air Force One that Iran should have agreed to a nuclear deal and that, now, he’s “looking at better than a ceasefire” between Iran and Israel. Asked what that means, the president said “an end, a real end” to the conflict — and that he was looking for a “complete give-up” by Iran.

US and UK announce progress in new trade deal

President Trump and British Prime Minister Starmer announced progress in a US-UK trade deal. At the G7 summit in Canada, the two leaders said they had signed a trade deal that will slash tariffs on U-K auto and aerospace industry imports. The president called it a “fair deal for both” that will allow for greater access to the British market for U-S products, including beef and ethanol. Starmer said it was “a very good day.” Despite the announcement, the two countries still are discussing how to handle steel production and pharmaceuticals.

Appeals Court to hold hearing on Trump’s Nat’l Guard deployment

An appeals court will hold a hearing this week on President Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles. Late last week, a federal judge ruled that the president illegally deployed the National Guard to help with LA protests, and said he must return control of the troops to California’s governor. But the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stepped in immediately and temporarily blocked that judge’s order. The court said it would hold a hearing on the matter on Tuesday. The order applied only to the National Guard troops and not Marines who were also deployed to Los Angeles.

President Trump is halting immigration arrests at farms, restaurants and hotels. Admitting that his administration’s immigration crackdown is hurting farmers and the hospitality business, the president directed immigration officers to stop arresting some undocumented residents. He said many of those people are “great” workers, even though they’re not citizens. It’s a change of tone for the president who has promised the largest deportation operation in American history.

Judge blocks Trump’s firing of product safety commissioners

A judge has blocked President Trump’s firing of three Democrats on the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The judge ruled that the commissioners can resume their duties because their dismissals were unlawful. The five-member commission is best known for issuing recalls to help protect consumers from dangerous products. Trump administration attorneys argued that the president has constitutional authority to remove the individuals. But the federal statute says commissioners can only be fired “for neglect of duty or malfeasance”— allegations that have not been made.
