2024 has seen a sharp rise in cases of “MPOX”, the disease former known as Monkeypox. The CDC says the number of MPOX cases for 2024 already exceeds the number for all of last year. Health officials say there have been 582 cases of MPOX this year compared to just 299 for all of 2023. More than 32,000 cases had been detected in 2022, spread primary via sexual activity among homosexual men. this year’s increase has been the worst in the Mid Atlantic region—comprised of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Former President Trump is ramping up his war of words against one of his biggest Republican critics in the Senate. After Senator Bill Cassidy [R-LA] criticized Trump’s rhetoric on illegals as “dehumanizing” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee fired back, using Truth Social to label Cassidy one of the worst senators in the upper chamber and a “total flake”. Cassidy was one of SEVEN GOP senators to find Trump guilty in his second impeachment trial, and has yet to endorse his bid for re-election.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell [R-KY] says he plans to serve out the remainder of his term, through 2027. McConnell repeated to a Louisville radio host what he’s already said before. When he announced in February he was resigning from his role as party leader McConnell told his colleagues -quote-“I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.” Despite his words there has been speculation he may choose to retire at the end of the year. Mcconnell says instead he’ll take a “new direction” on the hill, pushing back against what he sees as a growing strain of isolationism within the GOP.

A group of House Republicans has proposed renaming Dulles International Airport after former President Donald Trump. The idea comes from Pennsylvania Republican congressman Guy Reschenthaler [R-PA]. He says as millions of foreign and domestic travellers pass through the airport there could -quote-“no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,”, Dulles is currently named after former secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who served in the Eisenhauer administration.

House Speaker Mike Johnson [R-LA] says there will be some innovations in the latest Ukraine aid bill. Johnson acknowledges it’s time to get a bill passed, but also says part of that process will be including new innovations designed to skirt objections from some conservative lawmakers. One such innovation is the REPO for Ukranians Act, which would allow the president to take Russian assets frozen in the U.S. and give them to Ukraine to fund their war effort. Another idea—designed to win over fiscal conservatives-is to structure the next wave of aid as a loan. Johnson promises swift action on an aid bill when lawmakers return from their Easter recess next week.

President Biden has drawn a strong response from the Trump campaign and religious conservatives for proclaiming March 31 — which corresponds with Easter Sunday this year — as “Transgender Day of Visibility.” President Biden issued the proclamation on Friday, calling on all Americans to-quote-” join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation…” This year the March 31’s designation fall on Easter Sunday. The Trump campaign is calling on the White House to issue an apology to what it calls the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe Easter is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, called the president’s decision “outrageous and abhorrent.”

Shares of Donald Trump’s social media company rose about 16% in the first day of trading. The winning session boosted the value of Donald Trump’s large stake in the company as well as that of smaller investors, many of whom purchased shares as a show of support for the former president. Trump holds a nearly 60% stake in Trump Media & Technology Group. Based on Tuesday’s closing stock price the company –which runs the social media platform Truth Social-is worth about $4.6 Billion.

NBC News will cut ties with former Republican National Committee chief Ronna McDaniel, hired last week as an on-air political contributor. The decision was conveyed in a memo to staff from the top official of the network’s news division after a furious protest by some of its journalists and commentators. The move comes four days after the network said that McDaniel had joined as a paid contributor to offer political analysis. The response from journalists and others within the network was swift — and public. It’s caused many observers to question the network’s commitment to diversity of perspective in it’s on-air coverage.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled a planned visit to the U.S. by a high-level delegation after today’s (Monday’s) U.N. Security Council vote demanding an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. The resolution passed 14-0 on Monday after the U.S. decided not to use its veto power and instead abstained. Netanyahu accused the U.S. of “retreating” from what he said had been a “principled position” by allowing the vote to pass without conditioning the cease-fire on the release of hostages held by Hamas. Senate Democrats banded together last week to reject an amendment to stop President Biden from resettling unlimited numbers of illegal immigrants in all 50 states. United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), last week forced a vote on his amendment to the appropriations bill that would prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to secretly fly illegal aliens from other nations directly into states across the country. The flights allow the illegals to resettle in American communities, at U.S. taxpayer expense. Hagerty also notes the flights allow President Biden to artificially reduce the the record-breaking number of border crossings happening under his watch.

Embattled Senator Bob Menendez [D-NJ] says he won’t run for re-election as a Democrat, leaving open the possibility he’ll run as an Independent. Accusations of bribes and corruption have not only left the longtime Democrat Senator facing more than a dozen counts, but also at odds with his own party which is urging him to resign. Menendez says he will not file for the Democratic primary in June. Instead he says he’s hopeful he’ll be exonerated in the Summer, in time to run an an Independent in the general election.

A former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. says Israel is unlikely to accept a U.S. proposal to the UN Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire. Former ambassador Michael Oren says Israel will oppose a permanent ceasefire which plays right into the hands of Hamas. Oren says a permanent ceasefire would allow Hamas to declare victory. He says it would also give the terrorist organization time to reorganize, re-arm, and plan it’s next attack against Israel

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll gives Republicans an edge in their battle to hold onto their majority in the House. SIX points. That’s how far Republicans lead Democrats in the latest Rasmussen telephone and online survey, just EIGHT months before voters head to the polls. 47% of respondents say they would vote for the Republican candidate if the election were held today, compared to 41% for Democrats. Two years ago, in March 2022 Republicans held an 11-point advantage. It narrowed to just FIVE points in the final poll before election day that year, when the GOP scored a net gain of NINE seats.

Senator Ron Johnson [R-Wisc] says Republicans will have to depend on a grass-roots effort to get out the vote if they want to win the 2024 elections. Johnson says when it comes to campaigns, Democrats enjoy a major advantage in states like his, namely that the majority of their constituents reside in just a few large population centers. By contrast Johnson says Republican voters are more likely dispersed over wide, rural areas meaning GOP organizers must work harder to reach them.

Congressman Mike Gallagher [R-Wisc] is accusing China of spreading lies about a bill that would force the sale of TikTok to owners not controlled by China. He says TikTok used a push pop-up message to tell TikTok users in the U.S. the bill amounts to an outright ban on TikTok. Gallagher-who chairs the House Select Committee on China- says that’s false, and that the bill simply demands the popular social media app be sold to owners not controlled by the Chinese Communist Party if it is to operate in the United States.

Senator Rand Paul says he’ll hold up passage of the “minibus” spending package that needs to be passed by Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown. The reasoning behind the threat is not surprising coming from perhaps the Senate’s most outspoken budget hawks. Quote-“ “I will hold it up primarily because we’re bankrupt and it’s a terrible idea to keep spending money at this rate,” Paul says he’ll push for amendments and complains the bills —as written-will lead to a $1.5 TRILLION defecit for the year.

Senator Lindsey Graham [R-SC] is calling on the U.S. government to offer Ukraine interest-free loans. Graham calls his proposal “a new way of doing business” when it comes to doling out foreign aid. Ina meeting with President Volodomir Zelensky Graham predeicted structuring the aid as loans may get the prosal over the finish line with budget conscious Republicas in Washigton. Graham is also in favor of a proposal to use frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine to stave off Moscow’s invasion.
