Senator Susan Collins Blast NY Attorney General For Trump Charges

A moderate senate Republican is blasting Manhattan District attorney Alvin Bragg’s decision to prosecute former President Trump. Maine Senator Susan Collins is a longtime Trump critic but criticizes Alvin Bragg for what she calls the “political underpinnings” of his decision to put the former president on trial. She says it’s central to the  the American legal system that charges be brought for alleged criminal misconduct, not because of who the defendant is. In a statement h writes -“. In this case the opposite has happened. The district attorney, who campaigned on a promise to prosecute Donald Trump, brought these charges precisely because of who the defendant was rather than because of any specified criminal conduct.”

Former Senator Jim Talent Says NY Trial A No Win Scenario For Democrats

A former Republican senator believes the Democrats have shot themselves in the foot by putting Donald Trump on trial in New York. Former Missouri Senator Jim Talent [R-MO] believes a Trump conviction would do him little harm at this point, whereas an acquittal could prove to be a major vindication for Trump, and an embarrassment for Joe Biden and his party.

Marist Poll: Guilty Trump Verdict Not Likely To Sway 2024 Voters

Most Americans say a guilty verdict in Donald Trump’s New York trial is not likely to affect the way they vote in November. 67% of those responding to a Marist Poll say a guilty verdict would have no influence on their vote. 17% say it would make them less likely to vote for Trump, but that’s nearly offset by the 15% who say a guilty verdict would make them MORE likely to cast their ballot for the former president.The survey found that overall 2/3 of voters have already made up their minds about who they’ll vote for.

Blue to Red? VA Poll Now Puts Trump Even With Biden

Voters in the Blue state of Virginia are leaning more and more toward supporting Donald Trump in the 2024 election. The latest good news for Trump comes courtesy of a Roanoke College survey of likely voters, now evenly split at 42% who say they’ll vote for Trump, and 42% for Biden in a head-to-head matchup. Add in THIRD party candidates and Biden would gain a slight advantage—40-38%.  In the same poll less than two thirds- 63% —said Biden won the 2020 election fair and square. More than a THIRD say Biden won because of “irregularities” in the election.

Critics are blasting President Biden over his decision to open the tap on one of the nation’s most important fuel reserves. President Biden announced over the weekend he’ll sell off one million barrels from the  Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierere sas it’s about :lowering the price of gas.” The move comes ahead of the busy Summer driving season and the 2024 election. Critics say it’s a politically motivated misuse of the Reserve, which is intended as a critical backup in the event of natural disasters or oter national emergencies.

First-Term Senators Charting New Course For GOP

Observers say a new breed of Republican senators is moving the GOP in a new direction on Capitol Hill. Freshman senators JD Vance of Ohio, Josh Hawley of Missouri, and roger Marshall of Kansas are all trying to push bills with broader poplist appeal, especially in their home states, and finding some Democrat suport along the way.  Some involve railway hubs, and lower-income access to the internet . Senator Marshall’s effort to limit credit card swipe fees has evoked the ire of normally GOP supporting  bank corporations.   He says it’s a sign of who the new Republican Party is. . QUOTE: “We’re the party for hard-working Americans, and we’re not the party, necessarily, of Wall Street.”

Missionary Daughter, Son-in-Law Of Missouri State Rep. Killed in Haiti

The daughter and son-in-law of Missouri State House Representative Ben Baker have been killed by a gang while serving as missionaries to Haiti. Baker says his daughter Natalie Lloyd and her husband Davy Lloyd were killed by gangs in Port Au Prince. The couple had been serving as full-time missionairies in Haiti recently gripp by gang violence and chaos amid the collapse of the government. The Missouri lawmaker announced the killing on social media-quote” My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain.”

Florida Senator Rick Scott [R-FL] has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Mitch McConnell [R-KY] when he steps down as party leader later this year. Scott says his top concerns are the nation’s nearly $35-TRILLION debt, the unsecured border, and U.S. foreign policy. Scott joins GOP Whip John Thune [R-SD] and Senator John Cornyn [R-TX]  in hoping to replace McConnell when he steps down as Republican leader in November.

Senators Cruz, Britt Introduce Bill To Protect IVF Services

Senator Ted Cruz [R-TX] this week introduced the IVF Protection Act, along with Senator Katie Britt  [R-Ala] of Alabama, where the state Supreme Court earlier this year ruled that frozen embryo’s are children, and thus protected by Alabama’s wrongful death statute. The ruling has left Cruz and other Republicans vulnerable to what Britt calls “fear mongering” by critics who accuse Republicans of planning to impose new nationwide restrictions on IVF services.

Republicans say they’ll block the Democrats effort to advance a border security bill the GOP says is only for show. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says Majority Leader Schumer’s plan to advance the controversial bill is nothing more than what he calls “a gimmick.” Others say it’s political theater designed as cover for vulnerable Red State Democrats this election year. McConnell recently called on President Biden to reverse his own executive actions by which he halted construction of a border wall, allowed for the massive parole of illegals int the country, and ended firmer President Trumps’ remain-in-Mexico policy.

House Speaker Mike Johnson says it’s time for Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer to join his invitation to Israel’s prime minister to address a joint session of Congress. Schumer—the highest ranking Jewish official in U.S. history-ruffled feathers back in March when he called for new elections in Israel to replace Benjamin Netanyahu saying he had “lost his way”. Now Speaker Johnson says he told Schumer this week-quote- “he needed to sign the joint letter, and if not, we were gonna proceed and invite Netanyahu just to the House, and I’ll send individual invitations to senators,”

Senator Lindsey Graham [R-SC] is blasting the International Criminal Court for seeking arrest warrants against Israeli officials. Graham calls “outrageous” the decision to seek arrest warrants against Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Graham also notes the ICC at one time threatened to do the same to US forces in Afghanistan. U.S. officials acknowledge a large number of civilian casualties in Gaza, but say the fault lies not with Israel, but with Hamas, which continues to use the population as human shields.

Minnesota GOP Selects Former NBA Player To Challenge Klobuchar

Minnesota Republicans have selected a former NBA player to challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar in November. Despite his marginal status Royce White walked away with 2/3 of the delegates in the state’s GOP convention over the weekend. White was able to capitalize on grass roots and populist sentiments, as well as an endorsement from former Trump strategist Steve Bannon. To win the self-described anti-establishment White will have to defeat Klobuchar, a well-funded popular Democrat considered by some pollsters as a shoo-in for re-election.

House Panel Votes To Subpoena Audio Of Hur Interview With President

The House Judiciary Committee has voted to subpoena the Justice Department for the audio recording of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Biden in his missing documents case. Judiciary became the first of TWO House panels advancing their demand for the audio recordings, over the resistance of Democrats and President Biden’s surprise move Thursday to assert executive privilege. Hur’s October interview grew out of his year long investigation into Biden’s mishandling of clasified documents. It found the president had commited no crime but also raised questions about his diminshed capacity describing Biden as -quote-““elderly man with a poor memory”.
