James Taylor “Honored” Despite Cancelled Performance At DNC

Singer James Taylor says he was honored to be invited to perform at the DNC, even though his performance had to be cut. The famed songwriter was scheduled to sing his 1971 hit “You’ve Got a Friend” accompanied by cellist Owen Young and singers Kenya Hathaway and Matthew Johnson. But convention officials said they had to make cuts because of the “raucous applause” that was interrupting speakers and prolonging the program. In a statement James told fans-quote-“sorry to disappoint. But a great and inspirational, quintessentially American moment. We were honored to be there.” Bob Agnew at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Montana Poll Shows Leads For Sheehy, Trump

Some good news for Republicans in a new poll of voters in Montana. A new Emerson College Polling/The Hill survey is favorable toward both Republicans and former President Trump. It shows Trump-backed GOP senatorial candidate Tim sheehy leading incumbent Democrat Jon Tester by TWO points. Tester’s seat is one of a handfu Republicans hope to flip from Blue to Red in November. Voters in the state also favor Donad Trump over Kamala Harris by 15 points-55-40 percent.

Republicans says the nation’s struggling economy will hinder Kamala Harris’ prospects for election in November. Conservative author Guy Benson argues that Harris is avoiding talking about the economy at all costs. After all, she cast the deciding vote on a Democrat bill that added TRILLIONS in new spending, on the backs of working American taxpayers, and driving up costs enough to force lifestyle changes on many families. Former President Trump sees connecting Harris to so-called “Bidenomics” as an effective strategy. He was quick to label this week’s sell-off on Wall Street the “Kamala Crash”.

Political analyst Josh Kraushaar (KROSH’-hour) says the Democrat convention may feature violent eruptions by pro-Hamas demonstrators. He tells the Salem Radio Network says the party has been trying to accommodate both pro and anti Israel factions. A compromise made even more elusive by the party’s unwillingness to condemn the often violent pro-Hamas tactics. Something he says could embolden the protestors to conduct violent demonstrations at the party convention in Chicago later this month.

“Outdated”: Senators Introduce Bill To End Military Draft

A bi-partisan group of Senators have introduced a bill to end the military draft. Republicans Rand Paul and Cynthia Lummis joined Democrat Ron Wyden in presenting the bill, calling the draft an “outdated” government program that no longer serves a purpose. The Military Selective Service Act was passed in 1917 required all able bodied men aged 18-45 to register, but hasn’t been used since the Vietnam war. but hasn’t been used since the Vietnam war. Democrats have been aiming to expand the draft to incude women. Something that sparked a backlash from social conservatives and many Republicans.

Rep. David Joyce: House Probe Must Focus On Secret Service Training

One member of the House panel that will investigate the attempted assassination of Donald Trump says he’ll focus on the training of Secret Service agents. Congressman David Joyce [R-OH] says the close call cannot be blamed on a shortage of resources. Joyce tells the Salem Radio Network the lapses that occurred seem to underscore poor training. Joyce is part of the 13 member House panel that will investigate the attempted assassination.

Southwest Airlines To Start Assigning Seats

A big change at Southwest Airlines. The discount carrier is doing away with a 50-year tradition and plans to start assigning seats. The airline is also looking to introduce redeye flights. The airline said Thursday that it has been studying customer preferences and expectations and that its plans are in part to meet customer demands, but also are a way to bring in more revenue and strengthen its financial performance.

Convicted Senator Bob Menendez To Resign August 20th

Embattled New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez [D-NJ] says he’ll resign his seat next month. Pressure was mounting on the New Jersey Democrat to depart the chamber voluntarily, after he was convicted last week on bribery and other charges. The 70-year old Menendez—who now faces potentially decades in prison—said after his trial-quote-““I have never been anything but a patriot of my country and for my country. I have never, ever been a foreign agent.”. His resignation becomes effective on August 20th., but he still vows to appeal his conviction.

Top Congressional Democrats Rally Behind Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris has picked up endorsements from the top TWO Democrats in Congress for her presidential bid. At a press conference just outside the Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries endorsed Harris to become the party’s presidential nominee. Schumer told reporters the party is brimming with excitement and calling it -quote-“a great, great day for the Democratic Party and the country,” President Biden endedhis campaing on Sunday and endorsed Harris as his replacement. Support from Schumer and Jeffries further unitesthe party behind Harris in her bid for the white house.

Kamala Harris’ run for the white house is posing new challenges for down-ballot candidates, including a number of Democrat Senators up for re-election. Harris’ emergence as the party’s likely presidential nominee is creating some new angles of attack for Republicans hoping to flip the Senate. Key Republican targets include Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) . All will have to face questions about VP Harris controvdersal policy position dating back to the 2020 Democratic primary. Many of her statements lean hard to left on topics ranging from the border and immigration, to “Medicare for All” and and opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline.

A growing list of leading Democrats on Capitol Hill are throwing their support behind VP Kamala Harris in her bid for the party’s presidential nomination. House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) and Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) were quick to voice their support for Harris., as did former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. By midday Monday Senator majority whip Dick Durbin had become the highest ranking senate Democrat to endorse Harris, who also enjoys the suport of President Biden. Others in the party say the process should remain open up until the Democrat convention next month.

Democrats as well as Republicans are demanding accountability in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Trump. Representative Ro Khanna became the second Democrat to call for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Monday as she testified before the House Oversight and Accountability committee. He told Cheatle-quote- “If you have an assassination attempt on a president, a former president, or a candidate, you need to resign,” He said the Secret Srvice should transcend politics so as to have the confidence of “independents, Democrats, Republicans, progressives, and conservatives,” .

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin [I-WV] is dispelling rumors he was considering a run for the Democratic presidential nomination. Manchin told CBS Mornings “I am not running for office.” The denial came a day after speculation arose the centrist former democrat was considering re-joining the party to challenge Harris for the nimination- He told CBS-quote-“quote-““Let me make it very clear to you: I am not going to be a candidate for president,”. Manchin first considered-then quickly abandoned-the idea of mounting a challenge to Joe Biden after he left thre party earlier this year to become an Indpendent.
