White House pressures GOP lawmakers to support Trump bill
President Trump huddled with some GOP lawmakers in a push to win support for a bill that features his top priorities. Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and members of GOP leadership met with the president in the West Wing to try and hammer out a deal. A White House spokesperson described the meeting as “productive” and said it “moved the ball in the right direction.” Before the meeting, the White House delivered a pointed message for Republicans considering voting against it. In a statement, it said “President Trump is committed to keeping his promises, and failure to pass this bill would be the ultimate betrayal.”
