White House blames police for Jan. 6 riot, touts Trump pardons
The Trump administration is blaming police for “escalating tensions” on the day of the Capitol Riot in 2021. A page on the White House website marking the 5th anniversary of the January 6th riot says Donald Trump’s supporters were peaceful and accuses the United States Capitol Police of turning “a peaceful demonstration into chaos.” It also claims the 2020 election was stolen and attacks former Vice President Mike Pence for certifying former President Biden’s victory. The White House also touts the president’s decision to pardon nearly 16-hundred people who were prosecuted for their role in the riot.
