It’s the first day of Wall Street trading in 2026. After taking off the New Year’s holiday, U-S financial markets are open for business in the new year. In 2025, the three major U.S. stock indexes posted double-digit annual gains. For the year, the S&P 500 rose more than 16 percent, the Nasdaq was up by 20 percent, and the Dow climbed nearly 13 percent.
