Senators Cruz and Rubio Propose Ban On Government Use of “Latinx”
Two U.S. senators of Hispanic descent have proposed banning use of the term “Latinx” (Latin-Ex) in federal government communications. Senators Ted Cruz [R-TX] and Marco Rubio [R-Fl] have prosed a bill called the “Respect For Hispanic Americans Act”. It would bar the use of Latinx [Latin-Ex] in all official government communications. The term was intended to help so called “non-binary” Hispanics identify themselves apart from the standard “Latino” for men and “Latina” for women. A 2021 Gallup poll showed only FOUR percent of Hispanics choose the term for themselves.
