Iowa Dems announce plan for leadoff caucus with delayed results
Iowa Democrats are proposing a work-around to keep their first-in-the-nation presidential voting status.
Late last year, President Biden announced that South Carolina would be the first voting state in the Democrats’ 2024 primary season, leaping ahead of Iowa and New Hampshire. But Iowans want to keep their leadoff spot. So the state’s Democratic Party has announced it will hold a caucus on January 15th, but it will be a meeting only. Presidential voting for the Democrats will instead be held by mail throughout January and February, and the results won’t be released until early March.
