McConnell, Cotton Call For Re-Freezing Iran’s Six Billion Dollars
Two GOP senators are calling on the president to freeze the return of SIX-billion dollars in Iranian assets in the wake of the Hamas invasion of Israel. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Tom Cotton [R-Ark] of Arkansas have unveiled legislation to immediately freeze the funds which had been set for return to Iran as part of a prisoner exchange deal last month. The attack by Hamas—an Iran proxy-has lawmakers on both sides of the aisle calling for a halt on returning the funds. In a statement McConnell writes that the civilized world must re-impose serious consequences on what he calls “the regime that aids and abets murderous evil against innocent Israelis.” He says the U.S must lead by example and calls freezing Iranian assets “an important first step”.
