A massive backlog of applications has led to epic wait times for anxious travelers. It’s a result of sky-high demand and a lack of workers. The short-staffed passport agency can’t handle the half a million applications that flood in every week. According to the State Department, it’s on track to top last year’s 22 million passports issued.
