High Court Appears Divided After Hearing Arguments On Universal Injunctions
The Supreme Court appeared divided after hearing arguments today (on Thursday) in a case that will determine the use of universal injunctions to keep President Trump’s executive actions from taking effect. The same day he took office President Trump issued an executive order declarig that children born to parents in the country illegally are not American citizens. Shortly thereafter A handful of federal judges stopped that order from taking effect. In arguing the case before the Supreme Court white house lawyers argued both in favor of the president’s policy, but also against the use of universal injunctions as a way for judges to stop certain laws, policies, and executive orders from taking effect anywhere in the country.
