Democrats are more vulnerable to losing their majority in 20-24 with an announcement this past week that senator Debbie Stabenow will retire rather than seek re-election

There’s no question Democrats are facing a big challenge in 2024 and the numbers tell the story. The blue party will need to defend 23 seats..including THREE independents who caucus with their party, while Republicans have only TEN seats in play. Mike Berg of the National Republican Senatorial Committee notes Stabenow’s announcement may be just the first by Democrats who-in his words-“decide to retire rather than lose.” Even Democrat strategist concede the party has only a slim chance of holding the Montana seat of Jon Tester should he retire, and virtually no chance at holding thr West Virginia seat of Joe Manchin should he choose not to run.
