Actor Sir Patrick Stewart Passes Away
Sir Patrick Stewart, the sophisticated actor who brought a Shakespearean touch to Star Trek and X-Men as he made an otherworldly transformation from British stage veteran to sci-fi icon, has died. Here’s correspondent Bernie Bennett.
VERBATIM:
Stewart died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles following “a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia,” says longtime spokesperson Kelly Bush Novak.
In 2000, he talked about why he chose to act in the X-Men franchise.
“Star Trek: The Next Generation” premiered in September 1987, two months after Stewart’s 47th birthday.
Stewart died just a few days after Walter Koenig, another “Star Trek” icon from the original 60’s series.
He is survived by wife Suzy Ozell and two children from a previous marriage.
