Israel confirms the safe return of hostages Ohad Ben-Ami, Or Levy, and Eliyahu Sharabi. The government denounces Hamas’ propaganda display of the emaciated captives and vows to secure the release of all remaining hostages
In an official statement on Saturday, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the safe return of Israeli citizens Ohad Ben-Ami, Or Levy, and Eliyahu Sharabi. Their families were immediately informed of their release, and Israeli security officials have been dispatched to support their recovery. The government also strongly condemned Hamas for the public parading of the hostages during a propaganda ceremony, where the captives were displayed in a weak, emaciated condition before being handed over to the Red Cross.
“The Government of Israel embraces the three returnees,” the statement read, emphasizing that the families had been updated by the responsible authorities that their loved ones were now safely with the forces. The announcement further stated, “the shocking images that we have seen today will not go unaddressed,” underlining the government’s unwavering commitment to secure the return of all hostages and the missing.
President Isaac Herzog added his resounding condemnation of the ordeal, declaring, “This is what a crime against humanity looks like!” He denounced the inhumane conditions that the hostages endured during their 491 days in captivity, describing them as having “returned after 491 days of hell, starved, emaciated and pained—being exploited in a cynical and cruel spectacle by vile murderers.” The president’s remarks captured the collective outrage over the treatment meted out by Hamas, and reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to confront such acts.
In his post, Herzog called on the global community to bear witness to the suffering inflicted upon these individuals and to stand in solidarity with Israel. “We take solace in the fact that they are being returned alive to the arms of their loved ones,” he asserted, framing the return of the hostages as not only a personal victory for the families but also a symbolic triumph over the brutal tactics employed by Hamas. “Completing the hostage deal is a humanitarian, moral, and Jewish duty,” he concluded. “It is essential to bring back all our sisters and brothers from the hell of captivity in Gaza—every last one of them!”
