Bolsonaro aide to blame former Brazilian president in jewelry case -report

BRASILIA (Reuters) – A jailed personal aide to Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro will confess his involvement in crimes related to the alleged sale of jewelry gifted by foreign governments, a report from Veja magazine said on Thursday, citing his lawyer.

Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp Lt Col Mauro Cid will say he acted under orders from the then president, according to the report, which added that Cid decided to confess given the amount of evidence gathered by the police against him.

Cid will admit to participating in the sale of jewelry given to Bolsonaro by foreign governments, the transfer of funds to Brazil, and the delivery of cash to Bolsonaro.

The report also says Cid will name former president Bolsonaro as the mastermind in a scheme in which they used government resources for their personal advantage, according to the federal police.

Bolsonaro’s defense did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
