Supreme Court hears case about redrawing congressional districts

The Supreme Court has heard arguments over the power of state courts to strike down congressional districts drawn by state lawmakers. Republicans from North Carolina argued that a provision of the U.S. Constitution known as the elections clause gives state lawmakers virtually total control over congressional elections. As a result, state courts would be cut out of the process. Hundreds of election laws are at stake and a broad ruling could lead to new efforts to redraw congressional districts to maximize partisan advantage.
