The Electoral Count Act clarifies the role of the Vice President is solely ‘ministerial’ when Congress convenes to certify the results of a presidential election. The clarification was sought in response to claims made by former president Trump that then-Vice President Pence had the right block certification of the 2020 election due to concerns raised about the integrity of the vote. The Electoral Count Act will clarify the Vice President has no power to solely determine, accept, reject, or otherwise adjudicate disputes over electors.
