Biden: “No imminent attempt” by China to invade Taiwan
President Biden raised concerns over Taiwan and human rights during a three-hour meeting with China’s president. After face-to-face talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Biden said they discussed Beijing’s behavior toward Taiwan. He said he doesn’t “there’s any imminent attempt on the part of China to invade Taiwan.” Even with increasing economic and security tensions between the two nations, the president said “there need not be a new Cold War” with China. The two leaders also discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and agreed that nuclear weapons should never be used.
