After mass shootings, Biden pushes for gun control legislation
President Biden is urging Congress to pass gun control legislation in the wake of several mass shootings. In a White House statement, the president lamented the loss of life in the latest California mass shooting, calling it “a senseless act of gun violence.” He called on both the House and Senate to “act quickly” and approve a federal Assault Weapons Ban and legislation that would raise the minimum purchase age for military-style firearms to 21. At this point, neither chamber of Congress has enough votes for such a measure to pass.
